Throughout my life, I've always had many hobbies and skills. They seem to capture my imagination for a moment before the novelty wears thin. However, there's something about the process of and play of pulp that has held me captive in a creative embrace. This project was conceived in line with the concept of a circular economy wherein materials are cycled through use as many times as possible before waste with no use value is created. As a result, my shop emphasizes recycling or upcycling and innovative creativity. Currently, production is met with the paper and packaging waste produced in my home and neighbourhood. I intend to branch out and source from the community as I grow.
The shop's name stems from a delightful sunny Summer evening with my niece and sister. I had found a bunch of wood that was largely in disrepair. You know - they are adult Legos. My niece was 2 at the time, and I was showing her how to safely use a hammer - very entertaining. She always wants to help, and so we decided to make a chair. At one point, I looked at my sister and asked her which of the subpar pieces of wood I should use for the back. The face she made was the essence of unimpressed apathy, to which I responded, whilst brandishing a piece of wood. "This one has more character!" My niece echoed in the purest form of misguided toddler exasperation. "Ya! It has character, Mum!"
I have a few other concepts that I would like to work with as It Has Character develops. As a social progressive and leftist living in an industrialized capitalist society, I acknowledge that money is something we've been taught to think of as necessary and thus find ourselves beholden to. However, I find myself motivated to think beyond such things towards reciprocity or gifting rather than something as odious as money. As this project develops, I'll expand on my thinking toward achieving a model that I'd find more ethical. Until such a time as the masses throw off the oppression of Capitalism, remember that we all exist in an ethical dilemma decently summed as follows:

"There is no ethical consumption under Capitalism."
