June 2, 2023 - I am in the process of starting a shop on Etsy which will include shipping to North America.
I'm happy to make an arrangement for Edmonton, Alberta pick ups in the meantime.
✧How long does it take to process an order?✧
Shipping is currently processed through Etsy with a 1-3 day turnover time. I may need to modify this depending on the order volume.
✧Where do you ship to?✧
When shipping is launched, the initial regions will be Canada and the continental United States of America. I will rely on Canada Post as my service provider. Their delivery standards can be reviewed here: https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/cpc/doc/en/support/articles/delivery-standards.pdf
A Message For Canadian Customers: For some locations and territories in Canada, the tracked shipping costs are much higher than average for the rest of Canada. In which case I will reach out to you to top up for shipping overage or request that you kindly accept a refund. Thank you for your understanding.
✧Why isn't shipping free?✧
Put simply, It Has Character is not Amazon. Big companies can absorb additional costs into their overhead or pricing standards. It Has Character is operated by one person who does everything alone on a part time basis.

What do you use to package items?
How do you ensure that my item is safely shipped?

As much as possible, I reuse boxes, bubble packaging, and thin plastic packaging. I also keep larger folds of paper and bubble wrap. In the future, I will obtain a cardboard confetti machine for box filler. For the most part, you should expect to see pre-used external packaging. It’s not pretty, but it’s friendlier to the environment and helps manage my shipping costs. If necessary, I will obtain Canada Post shipping materials.
✧How do you ensure that my item is safely shipped?✧
Since I can’t control what happens during shipping, I take the following steps for each order:

Each item is wrapped in homemade paper.

From my collection of reused packing materials, each item is padded for additional security.

Finally, the item is placed in an envelope or box depending on the size.
Keep in mind that I record and photograph all packed and shipped items. These are posted to ItHasCharacter on TikTok as part of my boxing videos.

Provided that you have requested a refund before the item has shipped, you will receive a full refund.

If you have requested a refund after the item has shipped, a refund will not be offered. Please see the Return Policies section.

Etsy has a binary response option for returns, and that doesn't meet with my prevailing philosophy. Since I don't accept all circumstances for returns, I've selected 'no' on Etsy. So, you'll need to reach out to me personally.
Returns are accepted within 10 days of arrival. However, as a part-time artisan, I will not absorb shipping costs all the time. In general, I reimburse for shipping in situations where you didn’t have control over the outcome. Please see below for more information.
✧When do you pay for shipping on returns?✧
In order for an item to qualify for a paid shipping return, one of the following circumstances must apply:

It Has Character shipped the wrong item.

It Has Character didn’t safely package the item.

Canada Post damaged the item during delivery.

In this case, It Has Character recovers damages from Canada Post.

✧When do you not pay for shipping on returns?✧
I will not pay for shipping on returns for things that occur within your control, especially those pertaining to personal choice or for which you had all the information to make an informed choise. These circumstances include but are not limited to the following hypothetical scenarios for which you will receive the accompanying canned response:

I don’t like this item: That’s unfortunate. I take care to provide accurate product descriptions and photos, and trust that you took the time to read and understand what you purchased. However, you are welcome to return the item, and a refund will be issued if it arrives in an unused and undamaged state.

I didn’t expect this item: That’s unfortunate. I take care to provide accurate product descriptions and photos, and it’s your responsibility to read and understand what you purchased. I didn’t order this item or someone used my card without permission: That’s unfortunate. I’d recommend reviewing safety procedures with your financial institution and the individual who feels like they ought to have access to your card. If you don’t want to keep it for yourself or give it as a gift, you can return the item, and a refund will be issued if it arrives in an unused and undamaged state.

There is an imperfection (wrinkle/hole/fold etc...): I take care to provide accurate product descriptions and photos, and trust that you took the time to read and understand what you purchased. Since these items are handmade from scratch they have character, and this means that there will be small imperfections that contribute to the uniqueness of the items. That being said, you are welcome to return it, and a refund will be issued if it arrives in an unused and undamaged state.
